Allendale County War Memorial Building

In honor of the Allendale County men who served in World War I, the building on the Allendale Court House Grounds was erected.  The building, although erected at a much later date than the courthouse, the architect used design and materials in constructing the Memorial which would blend with the older building. Upon completion in 1950, the attractive interior housed the Allendale County Library; the office of the Regional Library, the Veteran’s Administrative Office; and the office of the Allendale County Health, Education, and Welfare Department.  Facing the courthouse and in close proximity to the Memorial Building is broad Memorial Avenue that was bordered by stately magnolia trees with center parks of azaleas and shrubbery.  The Memorial Building became the Voter Registration Office when the library moved to its new home on Main Street.
